SAN DIEGO: This beautiful story reads like a tale straight off the silver screen. A San Diego couple have died in each other’s arms on their 75th wedding anniversary.
Jeanette and Alexander Toczko, married in 1940, often spoke of their wish to pass away together. They never liked to be apart. Alexander carried a photo of Jeannette in her Holy Communion outfit in his wallet.
The couple’s children say their parents were basically boyfriend and girlfriend since they were 8 years old.
Alexander was an avid golfer who played every day, until a recent fall caused him to break his hip. His health rapidly declined. Aware of the couple’s wishes, the hospice brought a bed into their home and set it next to Jeanette’s.
As Alexander’s health deteriorated, so too did Jeanette’s.
She was excited on June 29, because it was their wedding anniversary and she knew they had made it to 75 years.
Soon after reaching the milestone, Alexander passed away in his wife’s arms. She hugged him and said, “See this is what you wanted. You died in my arms and I love you. I love you. Wait for me, I’ll be there soon.” Less than 24 hours later, Jeanette joined her husband.
“They both entered the pearly gates holding hands,” say their son. -Agencies
